My series of posts on birding continues here, with my suggestion that you add a fabulous birdbath to your garden décor. The time is now to start planning your garden statuary, since you can place them and move them about even with snow on the ground.
The Farm in Chatham, New Jersey is famous for its collection of birdbaths, and I always love to walk through their veritable garden of birdbaths made from stately gray stone, aggregate, bronze, and metal. Choosing the right one as a garden accent is very important, so here’s what I suggest: bring photos of your home’s front garden, backyard garden, and side garden to The Farm and show them to one of our garden experts, landscaping pros, or design specialists. He or she will be able to suggest the birdbath designs, colors and textures that best match your garden design and garden accents.
The suggestions given by experienced NJ garden experts can make your existing garden design accents and lawn furniture look like new. Just one fresh design piece set in the perfect spot for New Jersey birds to land on, and for you to observe, adds a magical dimension to your gardens.
Now here’s another twist on the birdbath: you can fill it with water plants and rocks, creating a small, elevated water garden. New Jersey garden enthusiasts love the water garden, and this small ‘planter’ for it is the perfect transitional garden décor piece as you await your garden pond or fountains. Our Morristown landscaping has an Asian feel, so I’ll consult with Tim or my other favorite experts at The Farm to see which plants and stones will look and work best in my birdbath, and I depend on the experts’ recommendations of birdbath cleaning and maintenance supplies. Specifically, I want to know which kinds of organic supplies I can use to clean our birdbath, still keeping it safe and non-toxic for our New Jersey bird species that will soon be here, playing, splashing and drinking from our gorgeous new birdbaths.
